The vikings where partly fighters but not all the time…

Jobs they where doing:

  • Farmers

Farmers where planting oats, barley, wheat and vegetables. They ground the grains and made porridge, flour or ale. They kept animals like sheeps, cows, pigs and chickens just as the farmers in our time.

  • Craft workers

There where a lot of craft workers too. There where wood workers, leather workers, jewelers, blacksmiths or potters. Wood and leather workers where making cups, plates belts and shoes while jewelers and blacksmiths where working the metal so they could make rings, brooches, tools, knifes or swords. Potters baked hand twisted clay pots in ovens.

Those peoples where bringing their products to the town market where families and traders could buy them. The traders that where  buying it went further on and sold them in other places in Europe and Russia while they were also bringing back goods from there.

The Vikings Chief

Odin.jpg
The Viking village had a leader called chief.  They had a lot of slaves, animals and also a lot of gold. One of the most Powerful vikings was Cnut the Great: England’s Viking King.
The Viking chief had to make sure that villagers work.  If the Viking chief died he/she, got a special grave house and then, they burned it. There where also ships for the leader to have. The Viking chief could have so much power that he could  pay other Viking troops to fight with him in a war.
